Take a look at their new, updated website for more info here-> http://www.sevenseasatelier.com/

Ade realizes that some people are still waiting for a reply on their emails, but due to hectic times making all the arrangements and due the amount of emails he recently received, he’s still busy catching up. So thanks in advance for your patience!

When Ade is opening up his new schedule with bookings for in the shop in Eindhoven he will announce this on his Facebook or contact you by email.

First he will take a well deserved, small break in his homeland before he will start working in the new shop starting from February 2017.

So more news about this in the new year!

In the meanwhile, requests for bookings in Eindhoven can still be send to:  thisis369@gmail.com please include all relevant information.

APPOINTMENTS
Emails in English please! I am originally from Indonesia, so you can write me also in Bahasa Indonesia but i will reply in English to make it easier.

Make sure you gave me enough details concerning your project:

  • telephone number
  • explain your idea (any specific ornaments / symbols that you want to incorporate?, please send along any reference images you have, that you think will clarify your idea. I want to draw something by your guidelines, but I will advise you on what I think will work well or possible other options for your tattoo that will make the design better).
  • possible placement(s)
  • size (hand / palm size or cm)
  • reference images (examples of my work you like in style / details)
  • a clear, recent photo of the body part to be tattooed
  • in case of a cover up / continuing an old piece – a clear, recent photo of the tattoo(s) you already have
  • If you have specific dates in mind please send me those and I will do my best to fulfil requests.

Those that have all that info in their initial email generally get booked first. If you haven’t added this info, do it now and add it as a reply to the email you originally sent. I’m easily confused, so a continuing thread is much easier.

Due to the amount of messages I get a day, I’m not able to respond right now.

It usually takes me 1 (up to 4) weeks to respond to emails due to the volume of emails I receive.

Please do not send multiple emails (I don’t take any requests by Instagram / Facebook)

If it’s regarding when and where I’ll be guesting in the near future, please visit my instagram : adeitameda, all my recent work, dates, and in case of a cancellation, it will be uploaded there.

BALINESE WOOD CARVING

ade_1  ade_3

Ade recently did a couple designs highly inspired on old wood carvings from Bali.

WOODCARVING IN BALI

The craft of woodcarving has never existed in Bali only for decoration purposes.
In the olden days, the fine arts of woodcarving and painting were reserved almost exclusively for royal and religious purposes.
Woodcarving has a very long history in Bali.

TECHNIQUES

Woodcarving is a skill requiring more precision and sureness than that of carving stone. The carver starts with a clean block of wood which he cuts down to roughly the same size as the piece to be carved. Using very simple tools, the carver lightly taps the highly sharpened instruments. Unlike the technique used in the West, he does not use hand pressure except for really close work. Fine-grained hardwoods such as teak (jati), and strong fruit trees such as jackfruit (nangka), the compact sawo (a beautiful dark red wood), shiny ebony (ebon), tamarind, hibiscus, frangipani, and kayu jepun are the most popular carving woods.

The texture of the grain determines the nature of the piece to be carved. Dark ebony, particularly pieces with striped grain, are best suited for vertical shapes or faces. Rarer are pieces made of unpolished ebony (sanded and brushed only) where you can make out the grain in the wood. The blackest ebony might be used to depict a subject of great dignity. Satinwood, a light striped, beige-colored wood native to Bali, may inspire pieces of a softer theme. The grain often follows a skin pattern or veins in the arms of the statue.

The tradition is, if the statue is not to be gilded or painted it is made smooth with pumice and given a high polish by rubbing it with bamboo. These finished carvings were once treated and stained with oils to achieve a subtle gloss, but now Balinese artisans find that neutral or black shoe polish gives the same result and takes less time.

At the Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah) near Bedulu, Gianyar – elaborate Buddhist style carvings cover the entrance near the cave. This carving dates to 9th Century. Woodcarvings is largely links to religious tradition and  to Pura (small private temples) in Balinese home.

ade_4

Woodcarving for commercial purpose probably started around 1935. The Dutch traders firstly introduce Balinese woodcarving to Europe. Until now, a lot of Dutch Museum still have a huge collection of Balinese woodcarving. The Dutch take-over of Southern Bali in 1906-1908 not only destroyed the traditional courts of the island but it also shattered the old system of art production. There were new types of art showing up, and the artists made works that were commodities instead of items of religious use of content. This has an important impact on the production of carvings which could now be made and sold at tourist spots all around Indonesia.

For the best collections of Balinese wood carving, the visitor should go to the FA Siadja Wood Carving gallery in the village of Mas in Ubud. It holds a wide selection of carving from 1930s to current style worked in many different kind of wood.

CALLIGRAPHY / MONSTER INK VENRAY

calligraphy_2

As I mentioned in the previous post, a while ago when Ade was focussing and learning about ancient scripts, writings and calligraphy and after a lot of try outs, Ade created his own ‘calligraphy’ based and inspired on old, ancient scripts, like Hanacaraka and the Balinese script. He offered a customer to incorporate some of the writing in a tattoo design and after that more people picked it up and followed.

Lately Ade gets a lot of requests about his calligraphy designs. What people not always know is that it’s possible to translate almost every text or sentence into a calligraphy design (as long as it’s not too long). The fact that the ‘calligraphy’ is not always clear to read in one hit, makes it a nice for people who want to get a text done but don’t have the wish that everybody can read it, to make it more personal. To not give away too much of the ‘spirit’ behind these tattoos, if you’re interested you can contact Ade on thisis369@gmail.com for more questions and explanations.

ADE ITAMEDA – PICA PICA PARADE

It’s been awhile since our last update. Busy times, but fun times! One of the things that kept us busy was, Lielo & her friends setting up a new foundation in Rotterdam called Pica Pica and the upcoming mini-art expo that Ade will have as part of the Pica Pica Parade.

PICA PICA

LOGO PICA PICA_FB_600px

A new foundation focussed on music & art raised by Lielo and 3 of her close friends, Marcel Kamphuis, Nikki Smits & Rosanne Groeneweg.

Pica Pica Foundation brings independent places in Rotterdam together with a Parade in the summer

Magpie (Latin: Pica pica) is one of the most intelligent birds and is known for his passion for collecting striking glittering objects. Pica Pica Foundation aims to collect the most striking and newest places in different districts of Rotterdam during the Pica Pica Parade. It is organized in June, July and August at 26 different places in the city with 26 sing a songwriters / bands & art expo’s, with the center as a focal point.

“Several neighborhoods in attendance are having more and more unique places (coffee shops, barber shops, concept stores, cafés, design shops, streetwear, etc), but still work very independently. We want to contribute to the accessibility and diversity of Rotterdam culture by putting these places on the map,” says the organization as their biggest motivation. Through ‘Pica Pica Parade‘ the best independent spots and locations in Rotterdam are connected by a shared theme music and art.

New Rotterdam musicians are brought together with local artists during the Parade with several instore and terrace concerts. But also think of art exhibitions by local Rotterdam artists, as well as Pica Pica Foundation will show the Netherlands that Rotterdam has very much to offer and is a developing city where emerging initiatives will get a fair chance to bloom. People from outside the city will experience Rotterdam like a local during the Parade.

The map with all the locations & events on it is presented on Saturday, June 4th during the opening ceremony and after that available for free on all the attending locations.
